24th February 2024: ONE DAY WORKSHOP

Moving with Intersectionality

This introductory workshop draws from Beatrice Allegranti’s practice and forthcoming book.

What does it mean to move with intersectionality?

The workshop introduces the concept of intersectional body politics: recognising how race, genders, sexualities, class, disabilities are interconnected and embodied. Participants will be guided towards understanding how white body supremacy is insidiously embodied and embedded, and introduced to ways of practicing accountability, decentering whiteness, and decolonising everyday relating through experiential movement.

  • Come ready to move, write and discuss within a feminist trauma-responsive experiential framework
  • Open to dance and somatic practitioners
  • A reading list of key intersectional feminist texts will be provided at the end of the workshop

It was quite a profound experience. I experienced a sense of the environmental catastrophe and my autobiographical place within that.

Ageless Festival, Yorkshire Dance Space

It became a process of moving my felt-sense and noticing how that was tangled up with someone else’s. I experienced pockets of movement that were so deeply embodied that I wasn’t sure if they were mine or someone else’s.
